By episode four she had already confessed her love to Alex, but had somehow forgotten to mention to him that she was a prostitute. The rivalry between Ben, the best friend, and Alex, the boyfriend, turned Belle (and Hannah) into a dull girl. But once they threw Alex into the mix all distinction between the two worlds went out the window and what we got was a whore who slept around while two men fought for affections in the hopes of conquering her true love, the job. The only man in Belle's life that she wasn't paid to be with was her mate Ben and up until this episode, both Belle and Hannah had done their best to keep sex as work and Ben as friend without co-mingling the two. It was a strange adjustment for all of us. She had entered the world of sex without pay. Once she took him back to his room and mistakenly took his passport and cash thinking it was her payment, she turned over a new leaf. ![]() " Episode 2" introduced Alex, a man whom Belle mistook as a client but was really just an honest bloke drinking at a hotel bar. So what we got was several episodes of neurosis and the occasional case of mistaken identity. Without a label it's hard to be heard and without a pimp it's hard to be seen. But as all solo-entrepreneurs know, especially in this day and age, independent work is slow work. Season two started out where season one left us clamouring for more, with Belle fresh out of the whore-house and out on her own as an "independent contractor." She had gotten all she needed out of her pimp and was damn-sure she didn't want to shell out 30 percent of her hard earned cash so that "Lady Stephanie" could contract her out to all the lowlifes Piccadilly Circus had to offer. At times this cohesion put our girl into harm's way, but without these meltdowns we never would have gotten to the crux of this series-when the harlot became a writer. season two, however, was all about synergy-the melding of the two halves: for better or for worse. In season one we got to see how the two ladies led their very different lives and we indulged in their differences. ![]() Hannah is the doting daytime girl next door and Belle is the sexy siren of the night. ![]() Let's remember together: Piper plays both of our leading ladies, Hannah and Belle-the two sides of a single woman's personality.
